Give A Child A Chance

One of The Tree Project directors, Haidee is a committee member for Give A Child A Chance, a local charity based in Plymouth.

The work supports children and young people who are experiencing emotional, behavioural, and mental health challenges.

Give A Child A Chance (GACAC) works with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) teams at Mount Gould Hospital, as well as those out in the community.

GACAC awards small grants to families, community groups, schools, and organisations for equipment, transport, building work, and to support and run activities where children and young people with mental health challenges will benefit.

GACAC also established, and now runs alongside, BUD Club, a bi-weekly social space for children and young persons and their families where the child or young person is experiencing mental health challenges.

Wellbeing Workshops – Barnardo’s Plymouth

The Tree Project CIC co-delivered Wellbeing Workshops for care-experienced young people in partnership with Junior Journeys, part of Barnardo’s Plymouth Care Journey’s programme.

These Wellbeing Workshops provided a safe space for care experienced young people to be together and explore what was important to them.

The fun and interactive environment brought care-experienced young people together, providing an opportunity to bond and make new friends, and explore tools that support resilience through activities that improved life skills such as cooking, sleep awareness, online safety, and tips to manage friendships and relationships.

Positive peer support networks were created and not only were the young people empowered, but they were also enabled to learn in a fun, emotionally safe, and collaborative environment which put them at the heart of the activities.

We want a world where everyone thrives

So we set up to provide equal opportunities for all individuals & communities to thrive by exploring wellbeing in their lives.

We bring people together to share yoga, mindfulness, and explore the Five Ways to Wellbeing

We believe:

• Everyone deserves opportunities to thrive

• We are all holistic human beings, a part of the natural world

• We can all improve our own and others’ lives through learning and growing

We’ll use the Five Ways to Wellbeing actions (Connect / Learn / be Active / Notice / Give) and:

• Provide opportunities for people to explore connection

• Inspire an appetite to always learn

• Find ways to be physically active for all

• Encourage curiosity to notice the world around us and ourselves

• Explore ways to give to others

We’ll do this by working with people to discover and grow their own strengths, talents & skills. Challenging individuals to try new things take risks and change behaviour for the better.

We’ll expertly come alongside and facilitate groups or individuals through:

• Discussion

• Project based learning

• Yoga & mindfulness

• Supporting access to activities identified as useful or fun
