Yoga is a tool & practice that anyone can take part in and I aim to provide yoga teaching that is accessible to all. A tool for life yoga provides a way to keep the body and mind happy, healthy, nimble and resilient.
Using work with the body, the mind and the breath I seek to enable children, young people and adults to learn more about themselves to become their own experts. Students are encouraged to notice what they feel in their bodies and minds during practice rather than what the posture looks like on the outside.
For children and young people, yoga provides important lessons about self care and self acceptance. More than this, yoga is an antidote to all the hours now spent in front of screens by engaging us in mindful awareness rather than distracting screen images. It’s wonderful to see how over time children learn the practices that best support them, thereby building self confidence in managing their own feelings.
What I really enjoy is to see families creating special spaces and times for each other during sessions – this is gold dust.
Teaching for the past 6 years, I’ve learnt so much from all of the people I’ve had the pleasure to work with and the regular ongoing professional development I complete. Mostly I’ve learnt the importance of patience, adaptability and to be open to learning from students.
With a 20+ year career of working with children, young people, adults, families and communities it could easily be said I am a people person.
I’m forever curious about us as human beings, why we are how we are, but also how we find and grow resilience.
I feel very strongly that I have been lucky to have access to yoga in the past nearly 20 years with time, money & space to practice, not everyone has this so I am always keen to find ways of sharing yoga with those that can’t access it I even set up a small CIC enabling me to apply for funding to deliver to those not able to access
I teach yoga not as an expert who will heal all your ills but as a facilitator that will help you get to know your own body, mind and breath so individuals can learn to help themselves.
Give a child a carrot you feed then for a day, teach them how to grow you feed them life
I enjoy exploring how the simple ancient practices and tools of yoga can be applied to our modern lives for the benefit of everyone.
A yoga practitioner for just over 20 years, I set off on the journey of training to teach adults with the British Wheel of Yoga1 year Foundation in 2013 and then 3 year Diploma Level 4, in 2014. I had 2 fantastic teachers myself that I continue to learn from, both with 35+ years experience of teaching and a broad range of practice experience including yoga philosophy, Iyengar, Hatha Yoga, Raga Yoga, Ashtanga, pranayama & meditation.
I completed a 6-month British Wheel of Yoga module in Teaching Yoga to Children and Young People in 2016 with Christianne Kerr of Calm for Kids and was also lucky to begin my mindfulness practice with Christianne, completing the 8-week MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) practitioner training in 2020.
